Shaft flex

The manufacturer’s designation for how much a shaft bends.

Flex is a manufacturer’s description of how a shaft bends. Labels such as Regular, Stiff and Ladies help identify a configuration, but they do not form a single measurement scale across all brands and shaft models.

What a flex label can tell you

What a flex label can tell you
FieldUse it to check
Flex labelWhich configuration is being sold
Shaft material and weightMore of the shaft specification
Club lengthThe length of the assembled club
HandednessWhether the listed club fits your playing side

Two clubs both marked Regular may still use different shafts. Matching the label alone does not establish that they will feel or perform the same.

Keep the whole configuration together

A product name can cover multiple lengths, flexes and handedness options. When reading a price, check that it refers to the same configuration as the specification table. A stock label should not be treated as a custom fitting.

Choose through a fitting

Judge strike, ball flight, consistency and feel with the actual club. A simple speed category does not capture the full swing or identify the best shaft for every player. Check the specification of the actual club and try it before relying on a promised distance gain.
