The range is not a rule. A particularly good round can fall below 80, while a poor round can reach 90 or higher. Course difficulty, tee selection, weather, setup, and day-to-day performance can all move the final score.

Three numbers provide the clearest framework:

The figures cannot be converted into one exact gross score for two reasons:

  1. They are rounded and total approximately 18.2 holes rather than exactly 18.
  2. The last category combines double bogeys with every outcome worse than double bogey.

If all the costly holes were doubles, the implied total would be lower than if one or more were triples, quadruples, or worse. The breakdown describes the shape of a round, not its precise total.

For comparison, Arccos reports a 5-handicap profile of 1.2 birdies, 8.9 pars, 6.4 bogeys, and 1.6 double bogeys or worse. Descriptively, that profile contains more pars and fewer costly holes.
