Build a simple first kit

Know what to bring and what can wait.

Ask about club rental before buying a set. For a first practice visit, the facility or coach can tell you which clubs you need. A complete-set label counts accessories as well as clubs, so check the contents.

For a round, check the course's footwear and clothing policy, bring balls, tees and a way to mark and record your score, and plan for local weather. Fit, handedness and comfort matter more than buying every category at once.

Your first-round checklist

Bring the essentials and ask the course what you can rent.

  • Clubs that fit

Ask about rentals, handedness, length and a suitable starting selection.

  • Balls and tees

Bring enough for the session you have booked.

  • Footwear and clothing

Check the course’s requirements and the weather.

  • Scorecard and ball marker

Bring a pencil, or use a scoring app.

  • Optional extras

A glove, towel and weather protection can be useful.

Practice

Use the first-round checklist, then compare the club contents of the sets you are considering. Identify the items still missing from your own kit.
